I ran into this Google Search error today.
The message says:
Server Error
We're sorry but it appears that there has been an internal server error while processing your request. Our engineers have been notified and are working to resolve the issue.
Please try again later.
This is most likely a Google-side internal server error. It usually does not mean your PC, browser, or Google account is broken.
What does this error mean?
This page appears when Google Search fails while processing a request on Google’s side.
In practical terms, it is close to an HTTP 500-type internal server error. The search query reaches Google, but Google’s backend fails to complete the request and return a normal search results page.
The wording itself says that Google engineers are working to resolve the issue, so this is not usually something you can fix by changing your local browser settings.
Reports are appearing today
I checked around and found reports on Reddit’s outagealerts community on May 12, 2026. Users in multiple regions, including Australia, India, and Japan, reported similar Google Search internal server errors.
There have also been similar incidents in the past, including reports from June 2025 and older Google Search 500-error cases.

What can you do?
Usually, the best answer is to wait.
If it keeps happening, these quick checks may help:
- Wait a few minutes and search again.
- Try an incognito/private window.
- Try another browser.
- Disable VPN or proxy temporarily.
- Switch from the Google app to browser search, or the other way around.
- Use another search route temporarily, such as Bing, DuckDuckGo, Perplexity, or ChatGPT.
If many users are seeing the same error at the same time, changing your local settings will probably not fix the root cause.
Is this a virus or an account ban?
Probably not.
This looks like a standard Google-side server error. It does not directly indicate malware, account suspension, or a browser hijack.
Still, check the URL. If the page is on a real Google domain such as google.com or google.co.jp, it is most likely just a temporary Google Search error.
Bottom line
The Google “Server Error” page is best understood as a temporary Google Search backend failure.
You can retry, switch browsers, or use another search service for a while. But you probably do not need to reset your browser, recreate your Google account, or change major settings.
